ASE certification is a badge of achievement and honor that enjoys industry-wide respect and acceptance. The ASE-certified mechanics on our Twin City Hyundai service team may specialize in our dealership's makes and models, but their certification confirms that they can give highly skilled, seasoned, expert care to any vehicle. Here's why.

What Does ASE Certification Mean?

ASE certification is an official confirmation of supreme automotive repair knowledge according to evolving industry standards. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence issues certification when an auto mechanic passes the ASE certification exam and completes one of the following experience requirements:

  • Two years of training on-the-job
  • A two-year trade school degree in automotive repair and one year of training on-the-job
  • An automotive repair apprenticeship

The ASE Certification Tests

There are many ASE certification tests. The Repair Technician certification test, G1, is the first-tier test. It has roughly eight parts, gauging the auto mechanic's knowledge of performance, repair and replacement in the areas of:

  • Engine
  • Automatic transmission
  • Manual drivetrain
  • Axles
  • Steering
  • Brakes
  • Suspension
  • Heating
  • Air conditioning
  • Electrical systems

As ASE-certified auto mechanics complete more years of the experience requirement, they can sit for more advanced tests leading to more specialized certifications: Collision Damage Estimator, Parts Specialist and Service Consultant, for example.
